General and senior scholars coming under an exchange agreement between a Chinese university and its foreign partner, for a stay of no more than 12 months.

Language score
Depends on the teaching language. Chinese-taught general scholar programmes (other than Chinese language majors) and senior scholar programmes: HSK Level 3. Programmes taught in another language: the university's own requirement.
What it covers
Tuition fees; free university dormitory or an accommodation subsidy; a monthly stipend of CNY 2,500 for undergraduates, CNY 3,000 for master's students and general scholars, and CNY 3,500 for doctoral students and senior scholars; comprehensive medical insurance.

Age limits run from under 25 for bachelor's applicants to under 50 for senior scholars. Chinese-taught programmes need HSK 3 or 4, and bachelor's applicants take the CSCA.
