The 26 universities designated for the MOFCOM Scholarship and how placement works

Sources checked · Unofficial summary

The MOFCOM Scholarship-CSC Program is taught at 26 designated universities, listed by name in Attachment 2 of the MOFCOM Scholarship-CSC Program (Enrollment Guide) published on Campus China. Applicants do not apply to a university directly through this list: each applicant chooses one major and three preferred universities from the 26, and the China Scholarship Council places each applicant in one university only.

The enrollment guide lists them without descriptions, rankings or programme details. This page follows it and adds nothing about individual universities.

How placement works

The guide states the placement rule in three parts:

  • Each applicant chooses one major.
  • Each applicant chooses three preferred universities, all from the 26 above.
  • CSC places each applicant in one university only, on the basis of the applicant’s choice and the universities’ requirements.

The guide does not describe how a preference is weighed against a university’s requirements, and it does not say what happens if none of the three choices can place an applicant. Choosing three universities gives CSC options; it does not give the applicant three admissions.

Admission and registration

Scholarship winners receive the admission package from ECCO of the Chinese Embassy by the end of August. They must register at the host university before the registration deadline, which the guide says is usually September.

What the scholarship covers in time and language

The enrollment guide sets out one supporting structure for both degree levels:

Item What the guide states
Categories Master’s programme or PhD programme
Duration Master’s: 2–3 years; PhD: 3 years
Instruction language Scholarship winners must register for an English-taught programme

Because registration is on an English-taught programme, the language requirement sits at the point of registration rather than at the point of application. The guide does not set out any separate language-proof requirement, and it does not describe a preparatory language year.

What the enrollment guide does not say

Two things applicants usually want are absent from the page:

  • No academic year. The guide as published states no year or intake.
  • No application deadline. The guide states: “Please consult the application receiving authority for the deadline of each year.”

Both have to be confirmed with the authority that receives the application; neither can be read off this page.

Questions people ask

Can I be placed in more than one of my three preferred universities?

No. The guide says CSC will place each applicant in one university only, based on the applicant’s choice and the universities’ requirements.

Can I choose a university outside the 26?

The guide names 26 designated universities and describes placement as a choice made from among them. It does not set out any route for placement at a university outside that list.

Is the programme taught in Chinese?

No. The guide says scholarship winners must register for an English-taught programme.

How long is the scholarship?

The Master’s programme runs 2–3 years and the PhD programme runs 3 years, according to the supporting categories section of the guide.

When will I know where I have been placed?

The admission package comes from ECCO of the Chinese Embassy by the end of August, and registration at the host university is due before the deadline, usually September.

Does this page say when applications close?

No. The guide gives no deadline date and refers applicants to the application receiving authority for the deadline of each year.
