Deadlines for the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship: applicant and review dates by start month

Sources checked · Unofficial summary

In the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship 2025 Application Guidelines, the due date depended on when the programme started. Applicants had to complete their applications by 15 April for programmes commencing in July, 15 May for programmes commencing in September, 15 September for programmes commencing in December, and 31 October for programmes commencing in March 2026. The same section gives Recommending Institutions and Host Institutions a review deadline of their own in each of those four lines.

Those dates belong to one cycle. The Application Guidelines for International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship 2025 is dated January 2025 and was written for programmes starting between July 2025 and March 2026, and every date listed below has since passed. Any later edition may carry different dates; for the notice now in force, check chinese.cn.

Applicant deadlines and review deadlines by start month

Section III lists these pairs of dates under the heading "Application Deadlines (Beijing Time)":

Programme start month Applicant deadline Review deadline for Recommending Institutions and Host Institutions
July 15 April 25 April
September 15 May 25 May
December 15 September 25 September
March 2026 31 October 10 November

The notice organised the deadlines by the month a programme commences, so the line that applied to an applicant was the one for the month in which their programme commenced. These are not rolling deadlines: each of the four lines carries one applicant date and one review date, and the notice does not set a single closing date that covers every programme.

When registration opened

Section III says online registration was available from 20 February 2025 on the scholarship website it names as http://www.chinese.cn. Through that site, applicants could search for Recommending Institutions and Host Institutions, submit application materials online and track the application process. The notice gives a start date for online registration; it does not say when registration itself would stop accepting entries. Separately, it says the successful applicant must confirm with the Host Institution to go through the procedures of studying in China, and register at the Host Institution on the designated date stated in the Letter of Admission. That enrolment date at the Host Institution is distinct from the application deadlines above, and the notice does not tie it to a calendar month.

How decisions were made and when results came out

The notice says CLEC entrusts an expert panel to review the applications, and that decisions will be based on HSK and HSKK levels and scores, geographical distribution, and other factors. It also states that results will be announced about three months before the programme starts. Section III does not publish fixed announcement dates for each start month, and the guidelines do not state how many places were available or what share of applicants received an award; for Joint Program Scholarships, section II.7 says the number of scholarships will be available on the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship website.

Which programmes start in which month

The guidelines describe several scholarship categories, and two of them name their commencement months directly. The Scholarship for Four-Week Study Program commences either in July or December 2025. The Scholarship for One-Semester Study Program commences either in September 2025 or March 2026. Which line of the deadline table applied therefore followed from the month in which the programme itself began.

Questions people ask

When did online registration open?

The 2025 guidelines say online registration was available from 20 February 2025, on the website named in that notice as http://www.chinese.cn. The document gives that opening date only, with no closing date for registration as such.

Did recommending and host institutions have a deadline of their own?

Yes. In each of the four start-month lines, Recommending Institutions and Host Institutions had to complete the review by a separate date: 25 April, 25 May, 25 September and 10 November respectively.

What were decisions based on?

The notice states that CLEC entrusts an expert panel to review applications and that decisions will be based on HSK and HSKK levels and scores, geographical distribution, and other factors. It does not describe how much weight any one of those carries.

When were results announced?

The notice states results will be announced about three months before the programme starts. Section III does not give per-month announcement dates, so the gap between each start date above and its result date has to be read off that rule rather than from a published calendar.

Are these the dates I should apply against now?

No. They are the dates of the 2025 edition, written for programmes starting between July 2025 and March 2026, and all of them have passed. Check chinese.cn for the current edition and for its dates.
