How Chinese Government Scholarship results are announced, and who tells you

Sources checked · Unofficial summary

For most Chinese Government Scholarship applications the outcome reaches you indirectly. The Application Guide for Chinese Government Scholarship sets out seven steps, and the last one reads: the CSC will notify the admission results to the application receiving agency, which will then have the applicant informed. Programmes running under their own notice depart from that route and say so: ASEAN-China Young Leaders Scholarship winners are emailed by CSC before 31 July, MOFCOM Scholarship-CSC Program winners receive their admission package from the Economic and Commercial Counsellor's Office of the Chinese Embassy by the end of August, and China Link applicants are told by their host university.

Who examines your file before anyone hears anything

The general guide says CSC organizes designated universities and experts concerned to examine applicants' eligibility and academic performance before finalizing the short-list candidates. The notice does not name dates for this stage.

The Youth of Excellence Scheme of China states the sequence differently but on the same point: application materials undergo a preliminary examination by the China Scholarship Council, then CSC arranges a second examination by a panel of experts, and the final enrollment results are announced after expert review.

For China Link, the host Chinese university acts first. It processes the application and must submit the scholarship nomination list to CSC at least two months before the students' arrival in China.

The default route, step by step

Taken from the Application Guide for Chinese Government Scholarship:

  1. Find a designated university and major, and choose the programme.
  2. Contact the designated university for admission documents.
  3. Contact an application receiving agency for a recommendation.
  4. Submit the application form online through the Chinese Government Scholarship Information System.
  5. The receiving agency submits its recommended candidates list and the application documents.
  6. CSC examines eligibility and academic performance and finalizes the short list.
  7. CSC notifies the results to the receiving agency, which informs the applicant.

The guide names no month or deadline for step 7. The page itself carries no publication date and no academic year.

ASEAN-China Young Leaders Scholarship

Winners receive the final results from CSC through email before 31 July. Afterwards, the admission documents — the Admission Letter and the Confirmation Form for Study in China (JW201) — come from the host universities.

Two details in that guidebook matter for how you hear anything at all. CSC sends qualified applications to candidates' preferred universities for placement and reserves the right to adjust the preferred university and field of study, with placement results confirmed by the universities. The guidebook also asks applicants to provide accurate, detailed and valid contact information in the Chinese Government Scholarship Information System.

MOFCOM Scholarship-CSC Program

Scholarship winners receive the admission package from ECCO of the Chinese Embassy by the end of August, and must register at the host university before a deadline that the guide describes as usually September.

One line in this programme's reminders should be read literally: no explanation will be given on the enrollment result. The guide also gives no academic year and no deadline date of its own — it says to consult the application receiving authority for the deadline of each year — and it directs applicants to china-aibo.cn for the emails and addresses of the Economic and Commercial Counsellor's Offices.

Youth of Excellence Scheme of China

These dates belong to the 2026 intake. Its table of time and steps places review and announcement as follows: May, documents review by a panel of experts arranged by CSC; June, enrollment announcement, when admissions outcomes are publicized and documents for admission are sent. July and August follow with visa application, and September with commencement of study in China.

That cycle's online application deadline was 23:59 on 31 March 2026 (GMT+8), which has passed, and the page carried no notice of a following intake when it was checked. Treat the May and June steps as the dates of that intake, not as a calendar that repeats without a new notice.

China Link Short-term Scientific Exchange Scholarship

This notice sets no announcement month. CSC notifies Chinese host universities of scholarship award results on a monthly basis, and host universities notify applicants. Because the channel is the university, the timing depends on when the university submits its nomination list. The CSC application portal is described as open to applicants all year round, and successful applicants must start their study in China no later than 31 August 2027.

Questions people ask

Will CSC email me directly?

The general route says no such thing: CSC notifies the receiving agency, and the agency informs you. Only the ASEAN-China Young Leaders Scholarship guidebook states that winners receive final results from CSC through email. The China Link notice places your host university in that position. The other notices consulted do not specify an email channel.

Does anyone explain why I was not selected?

The MOFCOM enrollment guide says plainly that no explanation will be given on the enrollment result. The other notices consulted do not address whether reasons are given, so nothing can be stated for them.

Do all programmes announce results in the same month?

No, and the month depends on which notice governs your programme. For the general Chinese Government Scholarship route no month is named at all. The tightest commitments found are before 31 July for ASEAN-China Young Leaders, by the end of August for MOFCOM, and June 2026 for the Youth of Excellence Scheme's enrollment announcement.

Who issues the Admission Letter and JW201 form?

For the ASEAN-China Young Leaders Scholarship the guidebook says the host universities send both documents. The MOFCOM guide speaks of an admission package from the embassy's ECCO. The general Application Guide states who forwards the result but does not say which office issues the documents.
