Chinese Government Scholarship for Ghanaian students: the Scholarships Secretariat route and agency number 2881

Sources checked · Unofficial summary

Ghanaian applicants for the 2026/2027 Chinese Government Scholarship applied through the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat: electronically on the CSC Study in China site using Programme Category "Type A" and the Secretariat's agency number 2881, and then by sending a hard-copy application to the Secretariat in Accra. The notice set two dates — the online form had to reach the CSC before 30 November 2025, and the paper application had to reach the Secretariat by Thursday, 18 December 2025. Both dates belong to that intake only.

The notice was published on 5 November 2025 by the Ghana Scholarships Authority, under the title "Chinese Government Scholarship Awards to Ghanaian Students for 2026/2027 Academic Year". Everything below comes from that document; where it is silent, this page says so rather than filling in from another programme's rules.

Who receives the application

Two bodies appear in the notice, and they do different jobs:

  • The Chinese Scholarships Council (CSC) receives the online application. The notice describes CSC as having adopted the Chinese online application system, and says applicants must apply electronically and submit the application to the CSC before 30 November 2025.
  • The Ghana Scholarships Secretariat in Accra receives the written application and its attachments. Hard copies were addressed to The Registrar, Ghana Scholarships Secretariat, P.O. Box M75, Accra.

The notice also states that the Secretariat's services are free, and that no individual, group or third-party entity has been engaged by the Secretariat to assist any applicant.

How the application was submitted

The online step. Applicants were directed to the "CSC Study in China" website at campuschina.org and told to click "Scholarship Application for Students" to begin. Two fields from the notice matter when filling that form in:

Field on the CSC form Value given in the notice
Programme Category Type A
Agency Number 2881 (the Scholarships Secretariat's number)

The notice says the system would generate a unique serial for each applicant.

Choosing a university. For subject areas and university preference, the notice told applicants to visit the Campus China universities list at campuschina.org/universities/index.html to select their choice of university and preferred courses.

The paper step. Eligible applicants applied in writing and submitted a hard copy of the completed application form with its attachments to the Secretariat address above. Both steps were required by the notice; the online serial and the paper file were not alternatives to each other.

Who was eligible

The notice lists these requirements for both levels:

  • Ghanaian citizen resident in Ghana.
  • Medically fit.
  • For a Master's programme: a first degree, at least Second Class Upper or better, in a relevant field of study.
  • For doctoral studies: at least Second Class (Upper) and a relevant Master's degree in a related or relevant field.
  • Age: not above 35 years for a Master's degree, and not above 40 years for doctoral studies.

The notice adds that women were particularly encouraged to apply.

Levels and how many places

The scholarship covered Master's and PhD levels of study only; the notice does not open the award to bachelor's or non-degree study. It does not give a number of places. It says only that "the awards are very limited" and that shortlisted applicants who met the criteria would be invited for an interview.

What the award covered

The notice does not set out the benefits. It describes the award as tenable in universities in the People's Republic of China for the 2026/2027 academic year, and says nothing in this document about tuition, accommodation, a monthly stipend, or medical insurance. The general Chinese Government Scholarship pages describe coverage for other routes, but those terms are not part of this Ghanaian notice and should not be read into it.

Documents for the paper submission

The notice asked for the completed application form plus:

  • Certified copies of academic certificates and transcript
  • A study plan and research proposal of 800 words
  • Two recommendation letters from Professors or Associate Professors
  • Copy of birth certificate
  • One passport-size photograph
  • Copy of National Service Certificate
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Recent bio-data page of a passport with validity later than 28 January 2025 (as the notice worded it)
  • Other relevant documents

Two further items were requested "if applicable": a pre-admission letter from a Chinese Government Scholarship university, and a language qualification certificate such as an HSK certificate, or an IELTS or TOEFL report.

Step Date in the notice
Notice published 5 November 2025
Online application submitted to the CSC before 30 November 2025
Hard-copy application received by the Secretariat not later than Thursday, 18 December 2025

These were the dates of one intake and have passed. When this page was checked, no notice for a following intake had been published on the same page. The next notice, when there is one, will come from the Ghana Scholarships Authority and its Scholarships Secretariat; its dates and its terms should not be assumed to repeat this one, including the Type A category, agency number 2881, the 35 and 40 age limits, or the document list above.
