Chinese Government partial scholarship for Vietnamese students: the Chinese Embassy's 2026/2027 guide
Sources checked · Unofficial summary
The partial scholarship the Chinese Embassy in Viet Nam handled for the 2026/2027 year was a Chinese Government Scholarship award for master's and doctoral study that waived tuition and left the student to pay accommodation, living expenses, insurance and travel. The embassy received the applications: applicants filed online in the Chinese Government Scholarship management information system with project category A and agency code 7042, then mailed paper documents to the embassy's Cultural Office in Hanoi.
The notice is written in Chinese. The English wording on this page is this page's translation, and where the notice writes the age limit as 一般不超过, this page renders it as "generally not over".
What "partial" meant here
The notice says one sentence about coverage: students granted the Chinese Government partial scholarship would have tuition waived, and would pay the other costs themselves.
| Covered by the scholarship | Paid by the student |
|---|---|
| Tuition | Accommodation |
| Living expenses | |
| Insurance | |
| Travel to and from the university |
The notice does not give amounts for any of these, and does not say how they were calculated.
Levels, duration and fields
The supported categories were master's degree students and doctoral degree students. Applicants had to submit a pre-admission letter from the university they were applying to.
On duration, the notice says the funding period included Chinese-language preparatory study and major study. Preparatory study was funded for generally one year. Major study was funded, in principle, for the same length as the basic length of the programme. The notice does not name a number of places for this scholarship.
The universities that take Chinese Government Scholarship students offered programmes across science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, economics, law, management, education, history, literature, philosophy and the arts, among others. The notice refers readers to www.campuschina.org for the university and programme listings rather than reproducing them.
Who could apply
The notice sets four conditions:
- Non-Chinese citizen, in good physical and mental health, holding a valid passport.
- For a master's programme: a bachelor's degree or equivalent, a strong academic record, and age generally not over 35.
- For a doctoral programme: a master's degree or equivalent, a strong academic record, and age generally not over 40.
- A pre-admission letter from the applying university, plus whatever academic ability and other admission requirements that university sets.
The notice repeats the pre-admission letter requirement in two places: once under the study categories, once under the eligibility conditions.
Language rules
For programmes taught in Chinese, applicants for master's or doctoral study had to reach at least HSK level 4. For programmes taught in a language other than Chinese, applicants had to meet the foreign-language entry requirement set by the university they applied to. The notice gives no alternative test or exemption.
How the application was submitted
The notice's steps were:
- Log in to www.campuschina.org, download the attachments, read the scholarship information and prepare the application materials.
- Contact the Chinese universities and departments that host scholarship students, discuss the intended programme and supervisor, and obtain a pre-admission letter.
- Log in to the Chinese Government Scholarship management information system at studyinchina.csc.edu.cn, fill in and submit the application online, and print the Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form.
- Choose project category A and agency code 7042 in that system.

- Mail the paper originals of the application form and other materials to the embassy's Cultural Office by 15 February 2026.

The address given for the paper copies is the Cultural Office of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Viet Nam at 46 Hoang Dieu Street, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi, in translation from the Vietnamese in the notice.
On documents, the notice names three files to download: attachment 1, the list of application materials; attachment 2, instructions for using the system; and attachment 3, the foreigner's physical examination form. The notice text itself does not restate what attachment 1 asks for.
Dates for that intake
The notice was published on 30 October 2025. The online application deadline it set was 10 February 2026, and the paper documents were to be mailed to the embassy's Cultural Office by 15 February 2026. Those were the dates of that intake, and they have passed.
A later notice for this scholarship would be expected from the same body, the Chinese Embassy in Viet Nam. When this site last checked, no notice for the following intake had been published on that page, and this page does not assume the next notice will carry the same levels, coverage, conditions or dates.
Questions people ask

What were the age limits?
Generally not over 35 for master's applicants and generally not over 40 for doctoral applicants, in this page's translation of the notice's 一般不超过.
