Editing or withdrawing a submitted CSC scholarship application: what the system instructions allow
Sources checked · Unofficial summary
If you submitted your application and then found a mistake, you cannot edit the submitted form directly, but you may still be able to correct it. Step 6 of the online application instructions says that once an application is submitted, no amendment can be made to the "Personal Details" and "Application Information" sections; the route to a correction is to revoke the application by clicking "Withdraw" before it is processed, edit it, and then submit it a second time. If the application has already been processed, it cannot be revoked, so the mistake cannot be changed in the system.
What Step 6 of the CGSIS instructions says
The Guidebook to the ASEAN-China Young Leaders Scholarship and the MOFCOM Scholarship-CSC Program (Enrollment Guide) give the same wording in Step 6 of their online application instructions.
In these two documents, Step 6 sets out the following sequence:
- Once submitted, amendment cannot be made on "Personal Details" and "Application Information".
- Before the application is processed by the processing authorities, the applicant can revoke the submitted application by clicking "Withdraw" and edit the application.
- After revoking the application, the applicant must submit a second time after re-editing, or the application will not be processed.
- Once the application is processed, the application cannot be revoked.
So the lock is not permanent until the file is processed: withdrawing returns the application to an editable state, but it must be submitted again to stay in the system.
How the Silk Road notice words the same rule
The Chinese Trade Unions Silk Road Scholarship notice states the same practical rule in its own words, in Step 6 of its application procedures.
It tells applicants they can make changes to the application by clicking "Withdraw and Edit" the Application on the top of the page. Applicants must then make sure to submit it again by clicking "Submit" after finishing all the changes; otherwise, the retrieved application will become invalid and the new application will not be received either. Once the application is under formal review by the CSC and universities, the applicant shall not be able to withdraw and edit it.
The Silk Road notice does not repeat the "Personal Details" and "Application Information" wording used in the other two documents. It describes the edit path and the point at which it closes without naming those sections.
When the option to withdraw ends
The documents tie the end of the withdraw option to a stage of handling, not to a published date.
- In the Guidebook to the ASEAN-China Young Leaders Scholarship and the MOFCOM Scholarship-CSC Program (Enrollment Guide), you can withdraw before the application is processed by the processing authorities; once the application is processed, it cannot be revoked.
- In the Chinese Trade Unions Silk Road Scholarship notice, the applicant cannot withdraw and edit once the application is under formal review by the CSC and universities.
None of the three documents gives a calendar date for when processing or formal review begins. The Guidebook to the ASEAN-China Young Leaders Scholarship gives no application deadline date; its focal point list is headed "As of 2026". The MOFCOM Scholarship-CSC Program (Enrollment Guide) says applicants should consult the application receiving authority for the deadline of each year. The Chinese Trade Unions Silk Road Scholarship notice gives no academic year and no deadline date.
Questions people ask
Can I edit my application after I have submitted it?
The instructions say no direct edit is possible: once submitted, amendment cannot be made on "Personal Details" and "Application Information" (Guidebook to the ASEAN-China Young Leaders Scholarship and MOFCOM Scholarship-CSC Program (Enrollment Guide)). To correct something, you must use the withdraw path—click "Withdraw" (or "Withdraw and Edit" in the Silk Road notice) before the relevant stage, edit, and submit again.
Do I need to submit the application again after withdrawing it?
Yes. The Guidebook and the MOFCOM guide say that after revoking the application, the applicant must submit a second time after re-editing, or the application will not be processed. The Silk Road notice says to submit it again by clicking "Submit" after finishing all the changes; otherwise the retrieved application becomes invalid and the new application will not be received either.
How do I know when it is too late to withdraw?
The official texts do not give a date. In the Guidebook and MOFCOM guide, it is too late once the application is processed by the processing authorities. In the Silk Road notice, it is too late once the application is under formal review by the CSC and universities. The documents used give no application deadline date, except that the MOFCOM guide refers applicants to the application receiving authority for the deadline of each year.
Does the Silk Road scholarship use the same rule?
Yes, with different wording. The Chinese Trade Unions Silk Road Scholarship notice uses a "Withdraw and Edit" button at the top of the page, requires a further "Submit" after changes, and closes the option once the application is under formal review by the CSC and universities. It does not use the "Personal Details" and "Application Information" wording found in the other two documents.
